MMmmmm Crispy!: We've got some exciting news - check it out!
Borderlands is very much a Hellgate: London made right. Not that it's perfect (far from it, in truth), but in a way that makes this game more than just a hype. Basically, it's the same mix of 1st perston shooter and dungeon crawler with RPG elements and cel-shaded graphics. All the levels are pre-generated though, but contain some random elements in looting spots and enemy variety.
Unfortunately, all the gameplay is basically consists in going from point A to point B to kill some monsters / mini-boss and possibly collect some item(s), then return back to point A. Rare boss fights is nothing special, as in sense of unique strategy / combat tactics. Yes, they wear stuff with unique properties, that render some strengths and weaknesses on them, but that's a minor variation.
All in all, I found this game pretty boring after a few hours of gaming. It's nice to sit to play it for an hour once in a while, but it have a little to offer when it comes to keeping my attention and interest for long.

Also, I was thinking that this isn't a role playing game and it isn't a fps game, it's like a new genre of hybrid between them.
I'm guessing this game would become boring for me after some days, but for the meantime, it's nice.
But it's a bummer that there's no demo to try it first :-(
Localized version isn't out here yet and only a few people here buy games on Steam. Moreover, it's kinda tricky to catch me when I play ('cause I play irregularly and not so frequent).
Also, I want to point out that I bought this game solely for the purpose to fill my time until Dragon Age: Origins release and given that my Internet connection will be filled to the limits for a few hours (maybe days ... this game weighs in some 16 GB) I virtually have a little chance to play Borderlands online. Maybe sometime later. But I really doubt that that will change my mind about this game as a whole. :P
Like, I have Heroes of Might & Magic V that I bought and played through. But then, I also have Gold Edition with all the expansions, that I bought and lay on my shelf and never touched again :D
Or Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, that I played for a while and then gave up. It's good and all, but I just never really fell into rhythm with it.
Devil May Cry 4? I stopped in the middle of the game.
There are more of them.
It's just that there's a lot of games that I want to play, but so little spare time for it. At some point I just switching from one of them to another. I am finishing really few games, much less I manage to re-play (I can only think of Paradise Cracked, Vampire: The Masquerade -- Bloodlines and Silent Hill 3).
Anyways tried out "Borderlands" (single player) - I like the gameplay, but the whole run to point A, kill stuff, then run back to point B to hand in really annoys me. I haven't tried "Fallout 3", but this reminds me of what I have read about that game, but more linear? You played "FO3"? How does that compare to "BL"?
One last thing - I actually liked "Hellgate: London" didn't play much of it while it was running, but I was a lifer... blah...
I played Fallout 3 as thorough as I could, including all the DLCs :D Actually, I spammed here a lot with it lately. But, honestly, I cannot compare F3 to Borderlands, they're quite different IMO.
As of Hellgate, well, this game stayed on my PC right until the servers were shut down :D It doesn't mean, that I played it a lot either.
To others humming and hahing about buying this game, xboxers can rent this game, play it multiplayer, you will probably end up buying it.
Good thing is that there should be a holiday on Wednesday :D
