Huge open world, which you can cross in any direction on one of the many vehicles. Bikes, quads, baggies, sport cars, big foots, etc. Vibrant colors, nice special effects, varied landscapes and weather conditions. Races. Online gameplay. No ultimate mission to beat? It's not a minus IMO, but is a turnaround for many.
